คณาจารย์-นักศึกษาเอไอที ออกแถลงการณ์ร้อง "รมว.ต่างประเทศ" แก้ปมขัดแย้ง-ไม่รับรองปริญญาบัตร
จดหมายจากสถาบันเทคโนโลยีแห่งเอเซีย (เอไอที) ส่งเผยแพร่สื่อมวลชนมีข้อความระบุว่า นักศึกษาของเอไอทีออกมาประท้วง และยื่นหนังสือขอความช่วยเหลือจากกระทรวงต่างประเทศ และกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ กรณีเอไอทีเปลื่ยนแปลงสถานะภาพ เป็นสถาบันเอไอทีระหว่างชาติ ตั้งแต่ต้นปีที่ผ่านมา แต่สถานะภาพใหม่นั้นประเทศไทยยังไม่ได้ลงสัตยาบรรณในกฏบัตรใหม่ ทำให้เกิดข้อขัดแย้งทางกฏหมาย ระหว่างกระทรวงต่างประเทศ และ ผู้บริหารสถาบันฯ กลายเป็นปัญหายืดเยื้อมาเป็นเวลากว่าแปดเดือนส่งผลกระทบต่อนักศึกษา และ สถานะการเงินของสถาบัน เป็นอย่างมากจึงจะเข้าร้องเรียนให้รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศแก้ปัญหา
"ตัวแทนอาจารย์และพนักงานของเอไอที จะยื่นหนังสือแสดงจุดยืน และข้อเรียกร้องเกี่ยวกับแนวทางในการแก้ไขปัญหา เป็นมติเอกฉันท์จากการประชุมสภาคณาจารย์ และการประชุมสหภาพพนักงาน ต่อนายสุรพงษ์ โตวิจักษณ์ชัยกุล รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงต่างประเทศ ในวันที่ 22 ต.ค. นี้ เวลา 10.00น."
ในแถลงการณ์ระบุว่าจุดยืนของคณาจารย์และพนักงาน สอดคล้องกันคือ การดำเนินการ ของสถาบันเอไอที ระหว่างชาติ ต้องอยู่ภายใต้ และสอดคล้องกับกฏหมายไทย ซึ่งเป็นครรลองปฏิบัติสากล ดังนั้น จึงเห็นด้วยกับข้อแนะนำของกระทรวงต่างประเทศ ที่ให้การดำเนินงานของสถาบันฯในประเทศไทยในขณะนี้ ก่อนประเทศไทยให้สัตยาบรรณและออกกฎหมายใหม่มาคุ้มครอง ให้อยู่ภายใต้ พระราชบัญญัติ สถาบันเอไอที ปี พ.ศ. 2510 โดยมี สภามหาวิทยาลัย (Board of Trustee) เป็นองค์กรบริหารสูงสุด และเรียกร้องให้คณะมนตรี (Council) และผู้บริหารสถาบัน AIT IO ยึดแนวทางนี้ เร่งแก้ไขปัญหา การไม่รับรองปริญญาบัตรนักศึกษาและการชะลอการให้เงินทุนสนับสนุนจากประเทศไทย ให้แล้วเสร็จภายในเวลา 1 เดือน เพื่อหลีกเลี่ยงผลกระทบอันใหญ่หลวงที่อาจเกิดขึ้นกับความอยู่รอดของสถาบันฯ
"คณาจารย์และพนักงานของสถาบันฯ มีมติร้องขอให้ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงต่างประเทศ เป็นผู้มีอำนาจรับผิดชอบ โดยตรงต่อการกำหนดสถานะภาพของสถาบันฯ ช่วยเร่งดำเนินการ และใช้มาตราการตามความจำเป็น ให้เกิดการแก้ไขปัญหาเป็นรูปธรรม โดยด่วน" แถลงการณ์ ระบุ

Representatives of faculty members and staffs of AIT are scheduled to submit position letters on the current crisis of the institute namely degree recognition and financial health to the minister of the Foreign Affairs on Monday October 22, 2012 at 10.00 am.
The letter states view point of the faculty and staff that were unanimously resolved from the meeting of Senate of Faculty members and a meeting of Staff Union. The current crisis was stemmed from the difference in opinion between the Institute Management and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on the legal right of the institute under the new charter of International Status (AIT-IO), which came into effect on January 30, 2012, to operate in Thailand during the period that Thai Parliament has not yet ratified the new charter. It has been unresolved for more than 8 months resulting in the declaration on the degree certificate invalidity of students by MFA and Office of Higher Education (OHEC) and the withholding of financial support from the Royal Thai Government to AIT.
Both Faculty and staff of the Institute are very worried and feel that we need to step forward to make our views known to all parties. In that we concur that AIT-IO must operate in Thailand in compliance with the laws of Thailand, which is in line with international practice. Therefore the solution to the problem is that the Management and Council of AIT-IO is urged to quickly take the advice given by MFA to continue to use the AIT Enabling ACT 1967 having the Board of Trustee as the governing body in running AIT in the land of Thailand during this period. The Management of AIT is given one month to resolve the problem.
In addition, the Faculty and Staff earnestly request the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has been representing the Royal Thai Government in founding and supporting AIT for the past 55 years and also responding to AIT's wish in acquiring the new status by helping draft the new charter, to urgently take necessary actions and measures to help save our institute from collapsing and protect the interest of our students.
